5 Tips For Winterizing Your Home

Save money and remain cozy throughout the winter by acting now before the bitter cold arrives.

Clean Your Gutters
Make sure water can flow and make sure it's flowing away from your home.  Also prepare for snow melting and spring run off.  Preventative action saves you in the long run.

Service the Furnace
Before they come, make sure your gas fireplaces turn on as the furnace folks can look at these too if required.  Better safe than sorry when it comes to fire.

Check the Doors
Ensure weather stripping is in good condition, this will help to keep the cold out and the warm in.  Even something as simple as weather stripping can have an impact on your utility bills.

Test, Check, Test, Check!
Test Smoke detectors and CO detectors - replace or repair if required.  Check around windows and doors for drafts, and check around the soffit for any spots that critters can sneak in.  The winter time is cold and you never know who may want to make your attic their home.

Don't forget the vents
Check your vent flaps; the stove, furnace, and dryer vents.  MAke sure they can fully close and open.  Clean/repair as required.  This also helps to keep the cold out and the warm air in.

When you keep up on home maintience throughout the year, it protects you, and your investment.  Your safety comes first, and then you get to reap the rewards of a well maintained investment.

Also, when it comes time to sell, you won't need to worry about getting a whole bunch of work done, and you can expect a solid return because your home is in such great condition.
